The "seamless carousel" technique for Instagram

A seamless (or "swipeable") carousel is a single wide image split into several square or portrait tiles, uploaded as consecutive slides of one Instagram post. Swiped in order, the slides recreate one continuous picture โ€” a panorama, a wide illustration, a banner โ€” instead of Instagram's usual one-photo-per-slide layout. The trick that makes it look seamless is purely arithmetic: every slide must be exactly the same width and height, and the source image must be sliced into equal-width vertical strips with no gap or overlap between them.

This tool does that slicing for you: it scales your source image to exactly cover the full carousel width and height you choose (cropping evenly from the center if the aspect ratio doesn't match, the same way a CSS background-size: cover works), then divides that scaled composite into N equal-width segments โ€” one canvas per slide. Because each slide is drawn from a precisely calculated, contiguous slice of the same scaled image, slide 1's right edge always lines up pixel-for-pixel with slide 2's left edge, and so on down the line.

Presets and slide counts

PresetPer-slide sizeBest for
Instagram Portrait1080ร—1350 pxMaximum vertical space per slide โ€” the tallest format Instagram allows in-feed
Instagram Square1080ร—1080 pxClassic square carousel โ€” most predictable cropping
Fit OriginalMatches your source aspect ratioNo cropping at all โ€” preserves every pixel of your source image

Choose 2โ€“10 slides. More slides means a wider effective canvas and a more dramatic "swipe to reveal" effect, but each individual slide shows a narrower slice โ€” 3โ€“5 slides is the sweet spot for most single images.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Slicing happens entirely on <canvas> elements in your browser, and the ZIP is built client-side with a JavaScript library โ€” nothing is sent to a server. Open DevTools โ†’ Network and confirm for yourself.
What image works best?
A wide image with a horizontal composition โ€” a landscape photo, a long illustration, a banner design. Very narrow or already-square images will need more cropping to fill portrait/square slides.
Will Instagram crop my slides again after I upload them?
Instagram carousels display each slide at the aspect ratio you export (portrait or square), so as long as you don't resize them again in Instagram's own editor, they'll appear exactly as generated here.
Why does "Fit Original" sometimes leave empty space?
It doesn't crop at all โ€” the per-slide height is calculated purely from your source image's own aspect ratio and the total slide width, so nothing gets cut, but the resulting height may not match a standard Instagram size.
Is it free?
Yes โ€” free, no account, no watermark.
